The European car safety body Euro NCAP has confirmed it is currently testing a number of cars fitted with crash avoidance technology in an effort to judge the systems’ effectiveness. This news coincides with an announcement from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which has published the first results of its own version of the scheme. Euro NCAP and IIHS are cooperating to establish a standardised test formula.
When I hear people use the words "senseless" or "tragic" to qualify death, the grammarian in me shudders. It seems they're modifying an absolute -- like saying "very unique," which by the definition of unique means one of a kind and can't be modified further. RECENT research carried out by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed that many younger drivers are failing to have their car serviced and maintained correctly. Risking vehicle-related financial, safety and efficiency problems, younger motorists are not only failing themselves, but other road users too. Polling 2,000 motorists on attitudes towards car maintenance, the survey found that 10% of drivers aged 18-24 claim their vehicle isn’t ever serviced.
